Secrets of the Gum Factory
How do we make Wrigley gum? Glad you asked!
It all starts in spotless, air-conditioned rooms where the raw ingredients - the gum base, sugar, mint and stuff - is all ground up together.
The base is melted at super-hot temperatures and passed through filter machines. The smoking hot base then goes to the mixers, each of which can hold up to a ton of ingredients.
Sweeteners and flavors are added at just the right moment, in just the right amounts.
These ingredients are then mixed slowly for the exact amount of time required by the formula. At this point, the gum looks like stiff bread dough.
From the mixers, the gum is sent through a series of rollers that form it into a thin, wide ribbon. A light coating of sugar or sugar substitute keeps the gum from sticking to the rollers.
The ribbon of gum is chopped into single sticks.
After the gum cools, machines wraps the sticks, apply the outer wrapper, and seal the ends of each package.Wrigley's gum is then shipped all over the world!
